Humans are part of nature's rich diversity and we all have the power to protect it.  Water enthusiasts are urged to volunteer during the week of 22 April for Project AWARE Foundation's global Dive for Earth Day events - not only during Earth Day's 40th anniversary but also International Year of Biodiversity 2010.

"What better time to celebrate our water planet - when Dive for Earth Day, the 40th anniversary of Earth Day and the United Nations-declared International Year of Biodiversity 2010 collide. Now's the time to dive into a conservation activity near you," said Project AWARE Foundation's Director, Jenny Miller Garmendia.  "80 percent of the world's biodiversity lives in the sea and Project AWARE's underwater volunteers are the front lines to collecting data for their ultimate conservation."

For eleven years divers have taken action on Dive for Earth Day to monitor local reefs and remove dangerous debris from aquatic ecosystems.  Project AWARE encourages volunteers of all ages join a marine debris cleanup, coral monitoring project or AWARE Kids activity this Dive for Earth Day, 22 April.
